This was one of Sara's favorite photos of the trip so far. These Chinese men were posing for their camera, not ours, but we had to snap a photo as well. This photo tells many stories at once. First, there are way too many pigeons in San Marco Square (flying rats, as our friend Kathleen calls them). Second, if you buy a bit of bird food from a vendor (1 € only) the pigeons will attack you. Third, San Marco church is beautiful.
Tour groups from Asia, especially Taiwan, Japan and China, have been a constant presence on our trip and we have come to enjoy running into them. They are very nice people to visit sites alongside because for the most part they are good tourists. They listen very intently to everything their guide has to say and they appear to be really enjoying themselves. The people traveling more independently who we have had a chance to meet are very nice.
For some reason unknown to us, we see a lot of older Chinese men traveling together in men-only tours. It is as common as the older American women travelling together in women-only tours. This was one of those groups. Really, you can't arrange pictures this good.
